The skills we focus on are drawing out, tapering, changing material cross section from round to square, flattening, straightening, and bending. Progression through class material is based on personal skill and learning speed. Students make a simple ring handled firepoker as a learning exercise and then work on a personal project of their choice for the rest of class. Typical projects include knives, nail irons and nails, leaf keychains, wall hooks, spoons, bbq skewers etc. Students take home everything they make and will receive a certificate of completion for Introduction to Blacksmithing.
